About Me.

I started my formation at University of Rome “La Sapienza” (Rome, Italy), where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in biotechnology (2011) and my master’s degree in medical biotechnology (2013), both with maximum grades. During my university studies, I received solid training in human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and antigen presentation in the lab of Prof. Rosa Sorrentino. There, I published my first peer-reviewed paper (Camilli et al, J Leukoc Biol 2016).

Then, I moved to Switzerland to the lab of Prof. Federica Sallusto at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Bellinzona where I acquired a solid technical and theoretical background in human immunology, that allowed me to publish three papers as first author (Cassotta et al, Nature Medicine 2019; Cassotta et al, J Exp Med 2020; Cassotta et al, Eur J Immunol 2020). I obtained my PhD in Immunology in 2020 at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH Zürich).

To further refine my training, in 2021, I joined as a visiting scientist the lab of Prof. Antonio Lanzavecchia at the National Institute of Molecular Genetics (INGM) in Milan, Italy. There, I strengthened my expertise in antigen-specific B cells and antibodies, single-cell RNA sequencing, and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing, and I refined my organizational and managerial skills by effectively supervising PhD students and contributing to the setup of the newly established laboratory. During my postdoctoral training, I showed marked initiative and developed effective leadership skills that allowed me to co-lead two projects that resulted in two publications in which I am co-last author (Low et al, Science 2021; Hu et al,  Eur J Immunol 2022). In recognition of the excellence of my work, in 2021, I was awarded a fellowship from the Ernst Jung Foundation for Science and Research that supported my stay at the lab of Prof. Lanzavecchia at INGM.

In 2023, I secured three competitive research funding to sustain my independent projects. Since 2024, I am a Research Associate at the IRB, where I started my independent lines of research on cardio-immunology.
